ANALYSIS OF A WEBSITE (UNILAG)

A website can be said to be the condiments that make up a particular organization, i.e in lay man's terms. A potential customer does not need to meet with the manufacturer before getting or purchasing anything. Therefore, a website serves as a means of communication between the organization and the customers. Some organizations use their website as customer care centres where customers can give suggestions, lay complaints as well as commend the organization.
In this context, the website which will be analyzed is that of the University of Lagos. Every detail seen on the website is what will be analyzed.
The University of Lagos is a federal university owned by the federal government of Nigeria.
The website of the university of Lagos can be said to be a standard one as it has moving pictures displaying students who are showing interest to study.
At the top of the homepage is the logo of the university which has the slogan "indeed and in truth" which made use of two colors which include green and blue. The next prevailing feature is the series of information which include "home", "about us", "communities", "Publications", "News", "Academics", "contacts" and "network policy".
HOME: The home page is divided into three columns. On the first column, there are options like "Facilities and Units" (showing the different faculties that are available),"Management" (showing those that are involved in the running and administration of the university), and "Administration" (showing the different departments that make up the university). The latest news are also contained in this first column.
ABOUT US: This section shows the history of the university also explaining the economic, physical and expansion growth.
COMMUNITIES: This talks about the academic planning unit which is aimed at providing a conducive place for students.
PUBLICATIONS: This shows the publications e.g projects done by students in each faculty.
NEWS: This page is filled with news that concerns the university.
ACADEMICS: This shows the faculties available and the year that they were established as well as the Deans.
CONTACTS: This shows the different ways to communicate and send correspondence to the university.
NETWORK POLICY: This has to do with LAN's present in the university.
Having analyzed all these, there are some few criticisms that needs to be done.
  • The website did not make provision for the "Search" icon which allows a viewer to check for information that are not readily available on the homepage.
  • Aesthetics: This has to done with colors. There are no uniform colors which does not allow for continuity.
